[Alfie greets and makes nice with newcomers when he comes across them, but he doesn't go out of his way to seek them out. He's not interested in being part of any de facto welcome wagon, especially not now that more and more people are filtering their way in, either to use the Meadous as a waypoint or to settle down and stay; that can be a job for people like Meulin and Harley. He does, however, notice new houses as he passes them by, and today there's one on his regular walking route. He takes note of the name on the mailbox - Beauregard, good lord - and is all set to continue ambling onwards when a flash of movement catches his eye. Is that--
-- yes. That absolutely is his cat, leaping up onto the windowsill and slipping in through the open window.
With a sigh, he turns and heads towards the door instead, giving it a firm knock.]

[Is the best advice he has.]
Face it head-on. Acknowledge it. Allow it to see that you are not interested in giving it power over you.

No, I thought I'd just bottle it all up until some random stranger told me to face my fears. Gee, thanks, old man. So wise.
[ you'd think she'd learn not to be belligerent but, you know. ]
no subject
You'd be surprised at how many people would do exactly that, little girl.

Don't be patronizing to me in my own fucking house.

You're the one who gave me unsolicited advice -- [ she starts, heated, and then - her lips purse, and she holds up a hand and shifts on the couch, feet on the floor. ]
No, fuck, hold on. Stop. [ this is now how she wants this to go. she's supposed to be learning. ]

[ that's the best she can offer. ]

[Thanks for the insight into your insecurities, though. He likes knowing about them even if he never plans to use them against someone.]
Are you used to being discounted for being young, or for being a woman?
no subject
Both. And for not being enough of one. [ a woman, she means. that's a whole... thing. she doesn't seem to mind telling him, at least. ] Any other burning questions about what you can file away to use on me later?
[ she says, like she doesn't do the same thing. ]

I doubt it's just me you'd file information away on, I'm not special. You just seem like the kind of guy that watches closely.

[Sometimes. Occasionally.]

[ mostly. ]

[He's still a little stuck on this.]

It's a dude's name where I come from too. But it's also my name and I'm a woman, so.

[He does sound like he means that, at least. You go, girl; own your name.]
no subject
... I've never heard an accent like yours before. [ she says, after a moment. ]
