[Alfie greets and makes nice with newcomers when he comes across them, but he doesn't go out of his way to seek them out. He's not interested in being part of any de facto welcome wagon, especially not now that more and more people are filtering their way in, either to use the Meadous as a waypoint or to settle down and stay; that can be a job for people like Meulin and Harley. He does, however, notice new houses as he passes them by, and today there's one on his regular walking route. He takes note of the name on the mailbox - Beauregard, good lord - and is all set to continue ambling onwards when a flash of movement catches his eye. Is that--

-- yes. That absolutely is his cat, leaping up onto the windowsill and slipping in through the open window.

With a sigh, he turns and heads towards the door instead, giving it a firm knock.]

It's a dude's name where I come from too. But it's also my name and I'm a woman, so.

I'm from a part of London called Camden Town; most of us talk like I do. Cockney.

[ oh, snap. she sort of grins a bit at that. ]

Do you speak Russian? [ she asks in... really fluent and unaccented russian, actually. ]

[Quelle surprise! His eyes even widen a little.]

I do, yes.

[And his is equally fluent.]

You didn't learn to speak like this in three months, did you?

[ she had a good teacher. half of it is book taught so there are going to be words in there that don't sound quite right, but for the most part it's pretty good. ]

I speak eight? Uhh. [ she lists them out on her fingers. ] Common, Halfling, Elvish, Deep Speech, Dwarvish, Undercommon, Russian, American Sign Language, and bits and pieces of Chinese and Japanese.

I've heard of a few of those.

[And just out of curiosity, he breaks out some of Royce's Elvish on her. It's noticeably less fluid than his Russian.]

Can you understand me? Can you speak this?

[ there are... bits that she recognizes, she thinks. it's a very similar language. maybe a different dialect. she gets part of it, and then: ]

I get that it's Elvish, but it's - weird. It's not quite right? You're speaking Elvish like from another world, right?
